Me trying hard to fit in with a semi-conservative look
By day, I manage an environmental services department (80 employees) at a 200 bed community hospital. What’s Environmental Services? It’s the department that ensures a clean, germ-free space in patient rooms, the emergency room, operating rooms and labor and delivery. Basically, we make sure the patient is not exposed to potential pathogens that would prevent them from getting well.

What’s My Story?
I was the only girl in a family of 4, growing up African American in the 1960s, in a small town in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. I lost my mom as a result of medical malpractice after she had been hit by a car driven by the 15 year old son of a prominent judge in our town. I was 8 years old. I don’t remember much about her, but I do remember that she loved to read, graduated from a Negro High School in Louisiana at age 15 and had her first child the same year.
My mother taught us the value of an education and read to us all the time. I grew up to love reading and books. My dad became very religious and involved in church, remarried and then the wicked step-mother moved in with us, creating a living hell until I moved out at age 17. Daily negative comments about my appearance, my poor father’s lack of education and the zinger – “you’ll never amount to anything” pretty much did a whack job on me, causing me to want to hide in the shadows and squash any talent I thought I had. It took years to change this little girl’s mind.
Fast Forward
At 20 I married the first and only man I had ever been involved with, our son was born a few years later and then after a series of domestic violence incidents, divorced. My infant son was taken by his father, for several months prompting involvement by the local FBI which turned out well when my son was returned to me. By this time, I had moved out of state, fearing what my ex-husband would do. This was probably the lowest point in my life, but I managed to survive and morph into the strong, woman I am today.
What I Did to Survive
I didn’t have a traditional family, so no support was coming from them or the church I grew up in. I did have teachers, Ms. McCullough and a principal, Mr. Gillespie who followed me from grade school to high school to encourage me. I listened to what they said instead of the noise I was hearing from the people who should have loved me.
I got into personal development and always made it a point to get as close as possible to the movers and shakers in the companies I worked for. I read, and read, and read, anything I could get my hands on about women who had survived abuse and divorce to become successful. I remembered what one teacher told me about my potential. She said she had faith that in any group of 100 women, I could perform well enough to be in the top 5. That’s all I needed to hear.
I’m a survivor because I didn’t have a choice. I’m the type of woman that if you tell me I can’t do something, for sure, I’ll do it. I knew early on that I didn’t want to be told what to do by people who had no clue what was going on. Sometimes, that bit my in the butt, but overall that attitude helped to move me forward in the direction of success.
How & When Did I Get Involved in MLM ?
I first got interested in Network Marketing when I heard about a company called A. L. Williams that sold life insurance. I didn’t get involved, but saw that the concept was awesome. Being caught up in raising a child, it was years later that I took a serious look at MLM in 1997. My husband was diagnosed with a serious illness and we chose alternative treatments instead of the killer drugs he was being prescribed. After a brief on-line search, I filled out a contact form for a nutraceutical company and was contacted by, none other than Mike Klingler of Marketing Merge.
Mike came to our home in California, worked with us and we travelled to a company event in Chicago and another in Dallas, TX. The following year, we flew to Portland to be part of a Mastermind that Mike was holding. I sensed his sincerity and commitment then, but after a few years we lost track.
I got involved in a 2nd MLM company, but with only small success even though we had no trouble recruiting people and moving product. I still knew the MLM & Networking model was for me.
My Vision:

- To make a difference, & leave lasting proof that I lived & changed the world for the better
- To take care of myself & family the way I want without being dictated to
- To honor my father & mother who left a segregated south to give their kids a chance
- To change the perception of America about what is really possible for all of us
- To be part of a revolution that will change the face of the work force in America today
- To bridge the divide between the haves and have nots
- To restore the mindset for abundance we were born for
